Late MSU Goal Stops Scarlet Raider Upset Bid

NEWARK, NJ – Sophomore goalkeeper Kat Renteria made several spectacular saves to keep Rutgers-Newark in the fray, but a late goal by Montclair State lifted the Red Hawks to 1-0 New Jersey Athletic Conference win on Alumni Field.

Renteria finished with 11 saves, including six in the second period, as the Raiders (4-5, NJAC 0-2) pressured the visiting Red Hawks (5-2, NJAC 1-1).

Junior midfielder Jackie McGrath went high in the right side of the box to head in a cross from the left corner off the foot of senior forward Liza Offeda for the game winner in the 78th minute.

After a tight first half in which each team took seven shots, Montclair State took control of the match, taking 11 shots to Rutgers-Newark's one. The Red Hawks dominated corner kicks 8-2.

Senior goalkeeper Leah Tepperman made four first-half saves to notch the shutout victory.
