MONTCLAIR, NJ – Montclair scored on the opening kickoff and held off Rutgers-Newark, 7-2, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match in the MSU Soccer Park.

Senior forward
Karen Johnson trimmed the Red Hawk lead to 2-1 in the 32nd minute by sending a shot into the far side of the goal after taking a serve to the right side by junior midfielder
Liana Abreu.
Red Hawk sophomore forward Rachel Senyszyn sent the opening kickoff to the top of the box where freshman forward Allison Wacker nailed a shot inside the right post just nine seconds into the contest. Wacker put another shot inside the right post in the 11th minute, this time off of a pass by senior midfielder Jackie McGrath, to stake Montclair State to a 2-0 lead. Wacker finished the match with a hat trick.
Senior midfielder Katie Minervini put a third Red Hawk goal inside the right post in the 36th minute to make it 3-1 at the break. Montclair State forged a 12-5 edge in shots during the opening half. The Red Hawks out-shot the Raiders, 30-12, for the match.
Junior goalkeeper
Danielle Griscom (1-1-0) stopped 10 shots, including seven saves in the second period.
In the second half, Senyszyn headed in a cross from Wacker in the 56th minute before Raider sophomore midfielder
Thalia Sanchez put back the rebound of a shot by freshman defender
Vanessa Rivera off Montclair State sophomore goalkeeper Marisa Zayac in the 65th.
Freshman forward Amanda Pero, Minervini and Wacker added late goals for the Red Hawks.
Rutgers-Newark (4-4-2, NJAC 1-1-1) hosts The College of New Jersey in another NJAC battle at 7 p.m. on Saturday on Alumni Field.
