BOX SCORE & PLAY-BY-PLAY
Kyprianou hammered a low shot from the right corner of the 18 just inside the near post in the 33rd minute after freshman midfielder
Patryck Dawidczyk collected a loose ball in the middle and fed it back outside.
Each team had numerous chances to score, but Scarlet Raider junior goalkeeper
Jonathan Frances and Gothic Knight senior Manny Lojo came up with big plays the rest of the way.
Frances notched his fifth shutout of the season by making five of his six saves in the second half when NJCU piled up a 14-6 edge in shots. Lojo made three saves to keep the Gothic Knights in the fray.
The Raiders (10-5-0, NJAC 3-2-0) won despite trailing in total shots, 21-17, and corner kicks, 5-3, to NJCU (3-9-1, NJAC 0-4-0). Rutgers-Newark has now won three of its last four NJAC matches to stay in the thick of the race for one of six conference championship tournament berths.
On Saturday each team stays in NJAC play as New Jersey City hosts Montclair State at noon and Rutgers-Newark visits Rowan for a 7 o'clock battle.
