Scarlet Raiders Upend Nationally Ranked Rutgers-Camden, 1-0

CAMDEN, NJ – A lone goal by Rutgers-Newark senior midfielder Nick Kyprianou and nine saves by freshman goalkeeper Matt Broomall were the final difference in a 1-0 New Jersey Athletic Conference win over Rutgers-Camden.

It was the first loss of the season for the Scarlet Raptors (5-1-0, NJAC 0-1-0) who entered the fray ranked sixth in the NSCAA D-III poll and eighth in the D3soccer.com national poll while the Scarlet Raiders extended their winning streak to four.

The Scarlet Raiders (5-2-0, NJAC 1-0-0) survived a 12-4 deficit in shots during the second period as the Scarlet Raptors out-shot the visitors, 18-11, for the match while piling up a 12-3 edge in corner kicks.

Kyprianou headed in a cross from sophomore midfielder Diego Moraes in the 23rd minute for all the only point that Rutgers-Newark would need.

Broomall had six of his saves in the second period at Rutgers-Camden Community Park.

Rutgers-Newark hosts Kean in an NJAC match at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
