NEWARK, NJ – Rutgers-Newark freshman goalkeeper
Kelsey Benoit stopped six shots as Rutgers-Newark battled to a 1-1 double-overtime tie against Rutgers-Camden in the New Jersey Athletic Conference opener for each squad on Alumni Field.

Mercedes Lois bounced a shot into an open goal just 15:23 into the match when Scarlet Raptor starting goalkeeper Lauren West went down in front of the net after getting hit in the face with a shot. The goal counted and junior back-up Leighanna Milby came on to stop four shots and earn the tie for the Raptors.
Sophomore midfielder Rachel Sindoni curled a free kick from the right side of the 18 off the opposite post for the Raptors' goal in the 44th minute.

Janelle Vega clearing an on-goal shot by junior forward Camille Graham exactly eight minutes following the opening goal to help Benoit while the Raptors survived a shot off the cross bar by Lois 32 minutes into the contest.
Rutgers-Camden (2-4-1, NJAC 0-0-1) out-shot the Raiders, 16-15, and had a 6-4 edge in corner kicks in the tight contest.
Rutgers-Newark (1-5-1, NAJC 0-0-1) is at Kean on Wednesday for a 7:30 NJAC contest.
