MONTCLAIR, NJ – Rutgers-Newark stayed close to No. 18 Montclair State for 75 minutes before falling, 7-0, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match in the MSU Soccer Park.

Freshman goalkeeper
Kelsey Benoit made nine saves for the Scarlet Raiders (1-8-1, NJAC 0-3-1) who suffered their third straight loss in league play while the unbeaten Red Hawks (9-0-1, NJAC 3-0-0) notched their seventh straight win.
Sophomore goalkeeper Gina Policastro faced just one shot and did not need to make a save in notching her sixth shutout of the season as the Red Hawks controlled play throughout the contest – out-shooting the visitors 27-1.
Freshman forward Stefanie Gomes paced MSU with two goals and two assists. Gomes netted the opening goal in the 14th minute and sophomore midfielder Catherine Zysk scored 24 minutes into the match to give the Red Hawks a 2-0 lead at the half. Benoit made four saves in the period.
In the second half, the Raiders held MSU to one goal until the dam broke in the 76th minute. The Red Hawks piled on four goals in less than nine minutes to break open the contest.

Mercedes Lois took the Raiders' lone shot on a free kick following a yellow card on MSU with 12 minutes left. Her attempt sailed high.
