Box Score WAYNE, NJ – William Paterson limited Rutgers-Newark to one shot on its way to a 4-0 New Jersey Athletic Conference win in the Pioneer Soccer Park.
Scarlet Raider junior forward
Janelle Vega took the first shot of the match just 1:27 into the contest, but the Pioneers (6-9-2, NJAC 3-5-0) did not allow another try to post their third straight victory.
Freshman goalkeeper
Diana Aviles made eight saves but a 16-1 edge in shots by WPU and a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks were too much for the Raiders to overcome.
Freshman defender Tori Woetzel and senior forward Sheray Anthony scored less than a minute and a half apart to give the Pioneers a 2-0 lead in the 12th minute. Sophomore midfielder Gina Cowdrick upped WPU's halftime lead to 3-0 with a tally in the 36th minute.
Freshman midfielder Sidney Gabrich scored in the 68th minute for the only goal of the second period.
Aviles made six of her saves in the first 45 minutes while Pioneers goalkeepers Mary Jane Seiler and Alyssa Falduto shared a shutout without having to make a stop.
