EWING, NJ – Nationally-ranked The College of New Jersey limited Rutgers-Newark to four shots to post a 7-0 New Jersey Athletic Conference win in the TCNJ Soccer Complex.
The Scarlet Raiders (3-7-1, NJAC 0-4-0) got second-half shots on goal by sophomores Mercedes Lois and Cristina Estremera against the No. 17 Lions (10-1-0, NJAC 4-1-0) while freshmen Paige Lazar and Katherine Canas took the other Rutgers-Newark shots.
Freshman goalkeeper Diana Aviles registered five saves while Lion senior Kendra Griffith got the win despite facing no shots during the first 45 minutes. She shared a shutout with junior Cristina Gacos and sophomore Shannon Weeder. Gacos made both TCNJ saves during her 28 minutes in goal.
Freshman forward Christine Levering paced the Lions with two goals and an assist while reserved junior forward Gina Caprara chipped in a pair of goals. Five TCNJ players tallied goals with Levering having a hand in all three first-half tallies.
The Lions forged a 35-4 edge in shots while dominating corner kicks, 6-2.
Rutgers-Newark hosts FDU-Florham at 7:30 on Wednesday night on Alumni Field to begin a string of three non-conference home contests.
