NEWARK, NJ – FDU-Florham ran off three unanswered goals in the second half to stun Rutgers-Newark, 3-2, on Alumni Field.

The Scarlet Raiders had forged a 2-0 lead on goals by senior midfielder Diana Catarino and sophomore forward Mercedes Lois, but the Devils (6-7-0) found the net three times in the final 35 minutes to claim the victory.

Catarino looped a shot into the upper corner of the far left post from 25 yards out on a drop back pass from freshman forward Paige Lazar in the 21st minute to stake the Raiders to a 1-0 halftime edge.

Lois upped the lead to two by collecting a loose ball on the right side of the 18 and firing a shot into the heart of the goal in the 49th minute.

But consecutive goals by senior forward Samantha Messina in the 56th minute, freshman midfielder Brittni Calleo in the 72nd minute and senior forward Michelle Hickey in the 88th minute kept Rutgers-Newark (3-8-1) from snapping a 7-game losing streak. The Devils (6-7) won for the third time in their last four outings.

Raider sophomore goalkeeper Diana Aviles made five saves while freshman Annie George made four of her six stops in the second half.

FDU-Florham constructed an 18-13 advantage in shots with each team trying three corner kicks.

Rutgers-Newark hosts Vassar College in another non-conference match on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. on Alumni Field.
