Box Score
NEWARK, NJ – Rutgers-Newark held the statistical edge, but the College of Staten Island used an opportunistic score and solid defense to spoil the Scarlet Raiders' home opener, 1-0, on Alumni Field.

Freshman goalkeeper Diana Aviles made three second-half saves to keep the Raiders (1-1-1) close, but the Dolphins (3-0-0), who have yet to give up a goal this season, denied the home team behind the play of senior goalkeeper Victoria Donegan. Donegan made four of her six saves in the opening period as CSI survived a 10-2 deficit in shots.

In the 51st minute, junior midfielder Samantha Wysokowski ran onto an errant clearing pass in the middle of the Raider half and fired the lone goal into the right side from 20 yards.

Rutgers-Newark posted a 14-11 edge in shots and controlled corner kicks, 5-3, but the Dolphins led in both categories in the second half.

Sophomore forward Mercedes Lois put both of her shots on goal while seniors Renae McEvoy and Alexis Sutton, junior Sarah Cunha and sophomore Julie Dantoni also challenged Donegan.

The Dolphins got the breaks in the opening half as shots by McEvoy and freshman Victoria Benet bounced off the post and Cunha and Janelle Vega rifled shots off the crossbar.

Rutgers-Newark visits York NY at noon on Saturday before returning to Alumni Field on Wednesday against Old Westbury.
