NEWARK, N.J. – Rutgers University-Newark powered its way into the ECAC Metro/Upstate Championship match with a 7-0 win over the Sages Colleges on Alumni Field.

It will be the Scarlet Raiders' first championship match in post-season play in the 15th year of the program when they take to their home pitch against fourth-seeded Stevens (13-7-0) at 7 p.m. on Sunday.  The Ducks toppled top-seeded Richard Stockton (15-9-0), 1-0, to earn their slot in the title game.

Sophomore forward Paige Lazar notched the second hat trick of her career while junior midfielder Sara Corson and sophomore Raquel DaCosta tallied two markers apiece as Rutgers-Newark dominated play by out-shooting the Gators (12-6-2), 24-9, while controlling corner kicks, 8-6.  The Raiders peppered 18 shots on Gator senior goalkeeper Teagan Waddingham who came up with 10 saves.

With her second goal of the opening half which gave second-seeded Rutgers-Newark a 3-0 lead at the break, Corson set new Raider records with 23 goals and 53 points for the season.

Lazar, who pushed her season goal total to 13, put back a shot off the goalkeeper by freshman Haley Savva just 3:02 into the fray for her fifth game winner of the year.  Savva then sent a long through ball to Corson who raced past a defender up the right side for a breakaway goal in the 13th minute.  Corson again ran onto a long through ball, this time from junior midfielder Cristina Estremera, and split a pair of defenders on her way to another breakaway run in the 41st minute.

Lazar netted goals in the 57th and 66th minutes off feeds from Estremera and DaCosta.  Her 13 goals tie her for the sixth most in a season by a Raider with Nnenna Allen (2003).

DaCosta their registered her first multiple goal match by punching in a cross from near the right end line by freshman Ashley Evaristo in the 75th minute and heading in a corner kick from rookie Jamie Bandinelli with just 1:09 left on the clock.

Corson, Lazar and DaCosta have combined for 14 goals in the Raiders' two ECAC playoff contests which started with an 8-0 decision over Lehman College on Wednesday.

Junior goalkeeper Veronika Tueros (7-7-2) needed just two saves in the opening 80 minutes to help the Raiders post their seventh shutout of the season.  Freshman Diana Carvalho played the final 10 minutes in goal.

Rutgers-Newark (14-7-2) extended it record season victory total to 14.

In the opening match, freshman midfielder Sammy Mount broke a scoreless defensive struggle with exactly 10 minutes left on the clock as Stevens outlasted Stockton.
