It was an evenly-played, physical match with each team taking 10 shots. The Mariners managed a 5-4 edge in corner kicks.
The Raiders snapped out of an 0-2 start to the season while Merchant Marine slipped to 1-1-1.
Rutgers-Newark plays in the Jimmy Mills Tournament at Haverford College this weekend, taking on the University of Scranton (2-0-0) at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Raiders face host Haverford at 1 o'clock on Sunday.
