MAHWAH, N.J. (October 15, 2015) – The Ramapo College women's volleyball team defeated Rutgers University-Newark, 3-0, Thursday night at the Bradley Center in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) contest.
The set scores were 25-12, 25-21 and 25-10.
Rutgers-Newark drops to 10-10 overall and 1-5 in the conference, while Ramapo improves to 14-6 overall and 4-2 in the NJAC.
The Scarlet Raiders had 26 kills and hit .018 in the match, compared to 36 kills and a hitting percentage of .174 for Ramapo. R-N combined for seven blocks and 48 digs, totaling 38 points. The Roadrunners had 45 points, 58 digs and three blocks.
In the first set, the Roadrunners controlled things, scoring eight of the first 10 points in the match and opening a 14-5 margin after 19. Freshman

Sharee Gordon pocketed a block to make it 14-7, but a 6-2 spurt from the hosts put an end to any Scarlet Raider momentum as Ramapo opened a 1-0 lead. Freshman
Jess Moy had three kills to lead Rutgers-Newark in the first set, and Gordon added two.

Andrea Antal had two kills in the early portion of the second set, helping Rutgers to a 4-3 edge. Sophomore
Bryanna Urbaez and Luken followed with kills as the Raiders extended to a two-point lead at 6-4 and 7-5.
Ramapo surged ahead with a 9-2 run to make it a 14-9 set, but the Raiders fought back within one (14-13) on the back of kills from Antal and sophomore
Sydney Tuman. Ramapo would come back with a 4-0 rally to go up five at 18-13, but a Moy kill and Roadrunner error gave the guests some life. The comeback continued with a Gordon hammer to make the score, 22-21, but that is as close at the Scarlet Raiders would get, succumbing 25-21.
Rutgers-Newark raced ahead in the third set, taking a commanding 10-2 lead after a Gordon/Antal block. Freshman
Analis Capobianco had an ace and Gordon put down two kills to pace the Raiders.
Ramapo had the answer, pulling even at 13 behind Judy Errichetti, and led 20-15 before the Raiders fought to force a fourth set. Luken started the rally with a kill and followed with an ace, and a Gordon tally pulled Rutgers within one at 20-19.
The Roadrunners countered with three quick points for some breathing room, closing out the Scarlet Raiders, 25-20.
Gordon led the Scarlet Raiders with eight kills (.267), four blocks and two digs, with sophomore setter
Bryanna Urbaez dishing out 18 assists to go with four blocks and seven digs. Luken finished with four kills, three aces, four digs and three blocks, and sophomore
Sue Riley led the way with 11 digs. Capobianco had a pair of aces and nine digs, and Antal notched five kills, five digs and a block.
Larysa Iwaskiw and Errichetti had 18 and seven kills, respectively, to lead Ramapo. Erichetti hit a lofty .417.
Rutgers-Newark will welcome Rutgers-Camden to town Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. for an NJAC match in The Golden Dome Arena.
