MAHWAH, N.J. (April 10, 2015) – The Rutgers-Newark baseball team suffered a 9-0 setback at Ramapo College Friday afternoon in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game at Jeff Maund Field.

The Roadrunners, who earned a 5-2 win in the series opener at Riverfront Stadium Thursday afternoon, improve to 17-8 overall and 6-2 in the NJAC. Rutgers-Newark falls to 9-16 overall and 0-8 in the conference. The Scarlet Raiders will return to action with an NJAC twinbill Saturday in Newark when they host Kean University. Game one is set for an 11:30 a.m. start from Riverfront Stadium.

Ramapo was able to score four runs in the first inning on the back of five hits. Junior catcher Jared Ensmenger delivered a two-run single as the hosts scored three more in the sixth and two in the eighth for the final margin.

The Scarlet Raiders were able to reach base seven times in the contest, four via walk along with a trio of hits. Junior shortstop Gerry Patrizio, senior third baseman Nick Gencarelli, and sophomore second baseman Jeff Reinecke tallied the R-N hits, with both Patrizio and Reinecke reaching base twice to lead the Scarlet Raiders.

Rutgers-Newark threatened in the in the top of the third inning as junior right fielder Billy Taylor walked and Patrizio reached on an error, but Ramapo starter Tom Portesy was able to get a pair of strikeouts to shut down the rally.

Still down 4-0 in the fifth, the Scarlet Raiders threatened again, but a double play erased a leadoff single from Reinecke, and Newark was unable to convert a pair of two-out walks into a run and the score remained the same.
