JERSEY CITY, N.J. (April 3, 2015) – The New Jersey City University baseball team defeated Rutgers-Newark, 6-2, Friday afternoon in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game at Caven Point Athletic Complex.
The Scarlet Raiders fall to 7-12 overall and 0-4 in the NJAC, with NJCU improving to 6-7 overall and 2-2 in the conference.

Andrew Nasti started strong, holding the Gothic Knights without a hit for 4.2 innings and keeping them off the scoreboard until the sixth when he allowed one run. He finished as the hard-luck loser (0-3), going 7.2 innings. Nasti allowed six runs (three earned) on eight hits and four walks. He struck out three.
NJCU starter Delio Coutinho tossed seven innings, striking out 13 and allowing two runs on five hits and eight walks - he did not factor into the decision. Freshman Anthony Keri – who earned the win for the Gothic Knights Thursday – tossed the final 1.2 innings to earn the victory Friday as well.
Rutgers-Newark jumped ahead 2-0 with a single tally in both the third and fifth innings. Rookie catcher

Gerry Patrizio with a sacrifice fly after Patrizio led things off with a walk.
NJCU pulled ahead for good in the eighth inning on sophomore Joe Coutinho's two-out base hit, and a Scarlet Raider error led to three unearned runs and a 6-2 Gothic Knight lead. NJCU ended the inning with five runs (two earned) and four hits.
Dias finished 2-for-4 with an RBI as the Scarlet Raider bats totaled seven hits in addition to nine walks. Junior
Billy Taylor had one hit, one walk and two stolen bases, with Patrizio reaching base twice and scoring once. Sophomore left fielder
Josh Cote was 1-for-3 with a single and a walk. Taylor now has 10 steals in his last five games.
Junior Andrew Niech went 2-for-4 with a run scored and second baseman Nick Ruscingno was 2-for-3 with a run as NJCU ended the contest with eight hits.
Rutgers-Newark returns to conference action Saturday at Rutgers-Camden. The doubleheader – originally scheduled for an 11:30 a.m. start – will now begin at 1 p.m. in Camden.
