GLASSBORO, N.J. (October 15, 2016) – No. 14 Rowan University defeated Rutgers University-Newark by a score of 4-0 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) women's soccer match Saturday afternoon.

Rutgers-Newark falls to 1-12-2 overall and 0-7-0 in the NJAC, while Rowan stays unbeaten at 14-0-1 overall and 6-0-1 in the league.

The Scarlet Raiders will return to action in one week when they travel to Montclair State University for their final road match of the season.

Rowan scored a pair of goals in the first and two more in the second to pick up the win, holding strong advantages in shots (22-2), shots on goal (12-0) and corners (8-2).

R-N junior goalkeeper Diana Carvalho made seven saves in 82-plus minutes of action, while freshman Heidi Paulson made one stop in 7:32 between the pipes.

Junior Nicole Gomez and sophomore Juliana Ceballos recorded the Rutgers-Newark shot attempts, with the duo each taking a corner over the final 11:22 of action.

The Profs took a 1-0 lead 4:48 into the match when junior Morgan Meyers put in a rebound after a Shannon Reardigan shot bounced off the crossbar. The score would hold at 1-0 for most of the first, but Rowan found the back of the net with just 36 seconds to play in the period to take a 2-0 edge into intermission.

The lead moved to three (3-0) 5:48 into the second period when junior Melissa Kelly scored on a cross from senior Megan Carchidi, and the final tally came in the 66th minute when Lauren Coletti – who scored Rowan's second goal – found sophomore Cathryn McCarry.
