BRONX, N.Y. (October 6, 2016) – The Rutgers University-Newark women's volleyball team picked up its fifth-straight win Wednesday night in the Bronx, sweeping host Lehman College, 3-0.
The set scores were 25-8, 25-13 and 28-26.
Rutgers-Newark, which had dropped to 6-7 prior to this excellent winning streak, is now 11-7 overall. The Scarlet Raiders will return to action at Kean University Tuesday night in a New Jersey Athletic Conference showdown in Union. Lehman falls to 4-13 in defeat.

The Scarlet Raiders set the tone early in the match, ripping off a 10-1 run to start and never looking back. The guests got three kills from senior
Tabitha Davis, a kill from sophomore
Cassie Luken and an ace from junior
Morgan Schweitzer in the rally, upping the lead to 15 (20-15) following a winner from junior
Rebecca Ford and an LC error.
The lead would swell to as many as 17 at 24-7 as Rutgers-Newark closed it out with a Lehman service error.
Rutgers-Newark 25, Lehman 13
The two teams went back-and-forth to start the third set, splitting the first 12 points before Rutgers-Newark blitzed the hosts with a 16-4 run to build a 12-point margin. Sophomores

Sue Riley had an ace to mention just a few of the point-making plays.
Ford put a wrap on the second, putting away a kill on the back of an assist from senior
Kathy Hormaza.
Rutgers-Newark 28, Lehman 26
The Raiders and Lehman went back-and-forth in the third, and after Newark took an early 7-3 edge, the hosts came back to tie things at 10-all.
The Scarlet Raiders were able to take a 15-12 edge, and Lehman came back to take a 20-18 lead, but the Raiders did enough late to get the sweep. After fighting off a set point at 26-25, a kill from Luken sparked a 3-0 run to close out the match as R-N received the assistance of two LC errors to earn the triumph.
Rutgers-Newark finished the match with 41 points, 27 kills and a .333 hitting percentage. The Raiders had 12 service aces, 26 assists and 28 digs, holding Lehman to a .039 hitting percentage.
Hormaza dished out a 18 assists, and lifted three digs, while Davis led the attack with 11 kills and a .579 hitting percentage. Schweitzer and Riley each recorded a team-high seven digs, with Luken (five), Polak (four; .667) and Moy (three) all picking up three or more winners. Riley led the Scarlet Raider service game, pocketing up a remarkable seven in the match.
