Highlights from Win vs Kean
PITMAN, N.J. (September 26, 2016) – Freshman
Fabio De Sousa of the Rutgers University-Newark men's soccer team was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Rookie of the Week, it was announced Monday afternoon prior to the team's non-league match against Saint Joseph's College – Long Island.
De Sousa led Rutgers-Newark (8-2-0 overall, 1-1-0 NJAC) to a 2-0-0 week, scoring three goals on seven shots. The Saint Benedict's Prep product scored the game-winner in a 3-0 shutout of John Jay College in the team's 2016 home opener Monday night.
Then on Saturday, De Sousa tallied the first and second marker in the team's thrilling 2-1 NJAC win over visiting Kean University. The first came via a penalty kick and the second was thanks to an assist from sophomore
Zachary Gillespie. On the play, De Sousa received the feed, turned and moving to his left ripped a shot across his body into the lower-right for the score.
De Sousa now has six goals, five assists and 17 points on the season which all lead the team. The Long Branch native is currently seventh in the NJAC in points and goals and third in assists.
