Women’s Soccer Falls at Clarkson

POTSDAM, N.Y. (September 3, 2016) – The Rutgers University-Newark women's soccer team was defeated by a score of 3-0 by host Clarkson University Saturday in a non-conference match on Hantz Turf Field.

Clarkson improves to 2-0 on the young season, while the Scarlet Raiders fall to 0-2.

After two tough road matches to start the season, Rutgers-Newark will travel home for a Wednesday match on Alumni Field against St. Joe's – Brooklyn. Kick-off is set for 7:30 p.m.

Clarkson took the lead for good in the 13th minute, adding insurance tallies at 51:40 and 77:08. Senior Lauren Flynn scored the first two markers for the hosts, including the game-winner coming at 13:06.

Clarkson outshot Newark 15-7 overall and put eight shots on target compared to two for the Scarlet Raiders.

Freshman goalkeeper Heidi Paulson made five denials for the Scarlet Raiders, who held a strong 10-2 edge corners, including an 8-1 advantage in the second half, but were unable to find the back of the net.

Rutgers-Newark created a shot and corner 1:24 apart midway through the first, and did the same with a little less than 10 seconds to play.

Midway through the second, Newark's Deidre Mackin put a header on target after a corner from captain Nicole Gomez but the attempt was stopped, and despite five more corners down the stretch, the Clarkson defense did enough to keep the Scarlet Raiders off the board.
