PITMAN, N.J. (October 17, 2017) – Sophomore goalkeeper
Andres Medina of the nationally-ranked Rutgers University-Newark men's soccer team was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, it was announced Monday evening by the league office.
Medina helped the Scarlet Raiders to a 1-1-0 week, facing 37 shots, making 15 saves and allowing just one goal against.
The Howell, N.J. native made four stops in a shutout of Ramapo, and then made a season-high 11 denials in an overtime loss to nationally-ranked Rowan University. He compiled a goals-against average of .43 on the week and a .936 save percentage.
Medina leads the conference in goals-against average (.44), save percentage (.883) and shutouts (eight). As a team, Rutgers-Newark has 11 shutouts this year.
The Scarlet Raiders have two matches on the slate this week, one at home and one on the road. On Tuesday night, Newark will battle with Stevens Institute of Technology in an non-conference tilt on Alumni Field, and Saturday the Scarlet Raiders visit Montclair State University in a conference showdown.
