Fabio De Sousa of the nationally-ranked Rutgers University-Newark men's soccer team was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Offensive Player of the Week, it was announced Monday afternoon by the league office.
De Sousa has been on a goal-scoring blitz, tallying markers in seven-straight games and eight of the team's last nine outings.
Last week, the Long Branch native recorded five goals in four matches as the Scarlet Raiders went 3-1-0 overall, including two wins inside the NJAC.
De Sousa opened the week with a goal and an assist at the College of Staten Island, and backed that up with the same thing in a win over New Jersey City University. The second-year All-American then scored twice in the R-N victory over The College of New Jersey Saturday, before notching the team's only score in a 2-1 overtime loss at Amherst College Sunday.
For the year, De Sousa has 28 points on 12 goals and four assists. Four of his tallies have been of the game-winning variety and he has at least one point in every game but two for the Scarlet Raiders.
