NEWARK, N.J. (July 13, 2017) – The Rutgers University-Newark men's soccer program officially announced its 2017 schedule Thursday.
The Scarlet Raiders will open the season with a trip to upstate-New York and Nazareth College for the Doug May Classic, squaring off with the host Golden Flyers on September 1 and Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) on September 2.
Upon returning to Newark, R-N will kick off its home slate with a match against the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Alumni Field September 6 at 7:30 p.m.
The annual 'Brick City Classic' (renamed in 2017) is a men's tournament this year, and Rutgers-Newark will battle Whitman College and Elmhurst College on September 9 & 10. Drew University is the fourth school in the tournament that always provides the Raiders with a great early-season test.
New Jersey Athletic Conference play begins September 16 as Rutgers-Newark welcomes Rutgers University-Camden to town, and following a pair of non-league contests, R-N will travel to Kean University for its first NJAC road game of the year on September 23.
The match against Kean is in the middle of the three-match road trip for the Scarlet Raiders, but they return to Alumni Field for two conference battles on September 27 and 30 against New Jersey City University and The College of New Jersey.
The Scarlet Raiders will hit the road for a trio of games to begin October and putting a wrap on that trip will be a tilt with NJAC foe Stockton University on October 7.
Ramapo College will come to town on October 11, and three days later R-N packs up and heads to league rival Rowan University.
Geographic rival Stevens Institute of Technology comes to Alumni Field on Tuesday, October 17, and the guys take on NJAC rivals Montclair State University on October 21 and William Paterson University on October 25. The match against the Pioneers will be the final regular-season home game of 2017.
Postseason play begins on Saturday, October 28 with the first round of the NJAC Tournament.

-The Scarlet Raiders will play 10 home and nine away matches this year
-R-N will play in three states – New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania
-Of their 19 matches, nine will be inside the conference and 10 will be outside

Rutgers-Newark is coming off the best season in program history, finishing 2016 with a record of 21-4-0 and an appearance in the 'Elite Eight' of the NCAA Tournament. R-N had seven all-conference performers and both the NJAC Coach of the Year and Rookie of the Year.
