Men’s Soccer Rising in National Polls, Stat Ranks

NEWARK, N.J. (September 20, 2017)
– The Rutgers University-Newark men's soccer team is off to a 7-0-0 start to the 2017 season, and the Scarlet Raiders are rising in both NCAA Division III national polls – D3soccer.com and United Soccer Coaches (USC).
 
Rutgers-Newark jumped two spots to No. 4 in the D3soccer.com index, and the Scarlet Raiders moved up six spots to No. 11 in the USC ranks.
 
The Scarlet Raiders opened New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) play with a 2-0 shutout of Rutgers University-Camden Saturday night and rolled 5-0 in a non-conference showdown with Mount Saint Mary College Monday. Newark will visit Albright College Wednesday night before visiting NJAC rival Kean University Saturday afternoon.
 
The Scarlet Raiders are the top-ranked team in the conference in both polls and are the only league squad in the USC ranks. Rowan University is No. 19 and Stockton University is No. 23 in the D3soccer poll.
 
As a team, Rutgers-Newark is featured prominently in a number of national statistical ranks:

The Scarlet Raiders crack the top-30 in points per game and scoring offense as well.
 
Individually, sophomore Fabio De Sousa checks in third nationally in game-winning goals with three, while junior Stefano Muniz is No. 25 with two. Sophomore goalkeeper Andres Medina is 10th nationally in goals-against average (.170) and 15th nationally in individual shutouts (three).

Streaking: Rutgers-Newark has won 19-straight regular-season matches.
Balance: An amazing 11 players have scored goals this season. Six have multiple tallies and 16 have at least one point.
Dominant: R-N has a plus-21 goal differential (22-1).
Stingy: The Rutgers-Newark defense is allowing .17 goals per game.
