Silveira, Ceballos Lead Women's Soccer to Rout of Brooklyn College

BROOKLYN, N.Y. (September 25, 2017) – Featuring a pair of hat tricks from rookie Ana Lucia Silveira and junior Juliana Ceballos, the Rutgers University-Newark women's soccer team got back in the win column this evening with a rout of Brooklyn College, 9-1.

The Scarlet Raiders improve to 7-3-0 while the Bulldogs fall to 3-6-0.

Silveira was the standout performer, notching her first three collegiate goals and hat trick in the first 11 minutes of action, until Ceballos matched her feat with a hat trick of her own in only 6 minutes and 45 seconds.

Rutgers-Newark scored early and often as Silveira struck first in the 3rd minute, heading in a rebound off a shot by senior Haley Savva who was credited with an assist on the play. Less than three minutes later, Silveira potted her second when senior Sabrina Solorzano sent her a ball at the top of the box that she buried into the back of the net.

Sophomore Samantha Richter sandwiched a brace around Silveira's third score as the visitors opened up a 5-0 advantage in the 17th minute. Exactly eight minutes later, Ceballos got in on the action, pouring it on with three straight goals, starting with a screamer from 30 yards out.

In the second half, Brooklyn pulled one back before sophomore Deirdre Mackin closed the ledger for the contest with a strike from 20 yards out, netting her first collegiate goal.

The Scarlet Raiders held a 29-1 advantage in shots and an 11-0 edge in corners.

Silveira and Ceballos led R-N's offense with their hat tricks while Richter added a brace and Savva recorded three assists.

A goalkeeping trio of sophomore Heidi Paulson, freshman Jasmin Erichson, and classmate Evelyn Rangel combined for the victory.

The Scarlet Raiders resume New Jersey Athletic Conference action on Wednesday when they travel to NJCU for a 3 p.m. contest.
