NEWARK, N.J. (September 26, 2017) – The Rutgers University-Newark men's soccer team continues to rise in both NCAA Division III polls.
The Scarlet Raiders moved up one spot to No. 3 in the latest D3soccer.com poll, and they crashed the top-10, checking in at No. 9 in the latest United Soccer Coaches ledger.
At the time the rankings were voted on, Rutgers-Newark was a flawless 9-0-0 overall and 2-0-0 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. The Scarlet Raiders are currently 10-0-0 and will put a 22-match regular-season winning streak on the line Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. on Alumni Field against NJAC rival New Jersey City University.
In the D3soccer.com poll, Calvin and Chicago are the only teams that appear ahead of Rutgers-Newark. NJAC foe Rowan University is ranked 16th at 8-2-0, while Stockton University is No. 18 at 8-0-1.
Chicago is ranked No. 1 in the USC poll, followed by Calvin, Tufts, Trinity (Texas), Washington & Lee, John Carroll, Messiah and SUNY Cortland. Rowan is the only other NJAC program in the USC poll, slotting in at No. 20.
Streaking (A): Rutgers-Newark is on a 22-match regular-season winning streak dating back to September 17, 2016.
Streaking (B): The Scarlet Raiders have not allowed a goal in more than 533 minutes of match time which goes back to a 2-1 overtime triumph over Elmhurst.
Stingy (A): The Rutgers-Newark defense has allowed just one goal against all season long.
Stingy (B): The backline has allowed 15 total shots on goal. The Raider offense has scored 32. That means, Rutgers-Newark has scored double the amount of goals than it has allowed shots on goal.
