EWING, N.J. (September 30, 2017) – Second-ranked The College of New Jersey defeated Rutgers University-Newark by a score of 4-0 Saturday afternoon in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) women's soccer game at the TCNJ Soccer Complex.
Rutgers-Newark falls to 2-2-0 in the conference and 8-4-0 overall, while TCNJ improves to 9-0-0 overall and 4-0-0 in the league.

Ariana Ruela. "They are on fire so far this season with not one goal suffered. Our ladies gave maximum effort and put up a strong fight."
The Lions jumped out in front early with a goal in the fourth minute, scoring two more times in the first half to take a 3-0 lead into the intermission.
Senior Christine Levering opened the scoring at 3:57 thanks to an assist from senior Jessica Goldman, and sophomore Despina Lianidis put her team on top 2-0 at 29:17. Sophomore Ally DeRiggi closed the first-half scoring, and Levering scored her second of the match at 52:02 for the final count.
Rutgers-Newark generated two bids in the game, one coming off the foot of senior
Nicole Gomez and the other from senior
Haley Savva. Sophomore
Heidi Paulson started in goal for Rutgers-Newark, making six saves in the first half, and senior
Diana Carvalho made three denials in the final 45.
TCNJ ended the match with a 35-2 margin in shots, putting 13 on goal, and a 12-0 advantage in corners.
Prior to Saturday, TCNJ had won its last three contests by scores of 8-0, 8-0 and 5-0.
The Scarlet Raiders will look to get back into the win column Monday night when they welcome New York University to Alumni Field. Kickoff for the non-conference match is set for 7:30 p.m.
Rutgers-Newark will be supporting the Puerto Rico Hurricane Relief efforts Monday night, and the Scarlet Raiders are hosting a drive for non-perishable foods, water, toiletries, medical supplies and cleaning supplies. All fans are encouraged to help in some way. All gate receipts will be donated to the cause as well.
