Annual Soccer Fest Celebration set for Wednesday Night

NEWARK, N.J. (September 4, 2017) – With the start of the new school year comes the annual Soccer Fest Celebration at Rutgers University-Newark, and this year the event will take place on Wednesday, September 6 on Alumni Field for the Scarlet Raiders' men's soccer game against CCNY.

All fans in attendance for the 7:30 p.m. kickoff will receive a free limited edition t-shirt as the men's soccer team looks for its third-straight win to start the season.

The Scarlet Raiders are coming off two victories in Rochester, N.Y., winning by a 3-0 final over Nazareth College Friday night and a 2-0 margin Saturday at RIT.

Ranked eighth in the nation at the time of this posting, Wednesday night will be the first chance fans have to see Rutgers-Newark in the Brick City since the team won its first and second round NCAA Tournament matches over New England College and Elizabethtown College in November of 2016.

A win on Wednesday would give the Scarlet Raiders three-straight triumphs to start the season which would mark the program's best start since 2011. It would also be the team's 15th-straight regular-season win.

Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. from Alumni Field against the Beavers of CCNY, and fans are encouraged to arrive early in order to avoid long lines.

Soccer Fest is part of Welcome Week at Rutgers-Newark which runs from September 6-16. In addition to Soccer Fest and the upcoming Brick City Soccer Classic next weekend, Welcome Week will feature events such as a street fair on Halsey Street, a Glow Carnival and more.

Scarlet Raider men's soccer faithful should also follow @ScarletRaiders and @RUN_Soc on twitter for the latest all season long.
