NEWARK, N.J. (October 1, 2018) – The Rutgers University-Newark women's volleyball team will host New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) rival Stockton University Tuesday night in The Golden Dome at 7 p.m.
Admission is FREE for the match and the Rutgers-Newark community is urged to come out and support the Scarlet Raider women as they look for a key conference victory over the Ospreys.
Rutgers-Newark will bring a record of 12-4 into Tuesday night after going 2-1 last week. The Scarlet Raiders are 2-1 in league play and are currently a sparkling 4-0 in The Golden Dome. After a 2-2 start to the season, Newark has been playing very well of late, winning 10-of-12.
Stockton has been playing strong volleyball as well and the Ospreys are unbeaten in the NJAC (3-0) and 16-4 overall. Since a 1-2 start to 2018, Stockton has gone 15-2 and is riding a nine-match winning streak.
The two teams are currently sitting at Nos. 2 and 3 in the NJAC standings. The Ospreys trail first place Kean (4-0) by a half game, while the Scarlet Raiders are one game back of Stockton.

The Scarlet Raiders are tops in the NJAC in aces per set, opponent hitting percentage and total team aces. R-N also cracks the national ranks in all three categories, sitting No. 4 in service aces (169), No. 10 in aces per set (3.45) and No. 41 in opponent hitting percentage (.109).
Freshman
Sharon Starling is third nationally in service aces with 48 and she is No. 4 in aces per set (1.00). Starling paces the league in both categories, while junior
Brione Lockett tops the conference ranks in digs per set (5.00). Senior
Cassie Luken is No. 1 in the NJAC in points per set (4.26), while her teammate
Comfort Akinbo is right behind her at 4.25 per set (No. 2 in the NJAC). Akinbo and Luken are currently one-four in the league in kills per set, and Akinbo's mark of 3.98 is good for 25th nationally.
The Ospreys sit at the top of the NJAC in total blocks, kills, kills per set and blocks per set, while Natalie Miller leads the league in total digs. Allie Desmond is atop the conference leaderboard in kills and total attacks, and Francheska Gustave is No. 1 in blocks per set.
