Women's Soccer Falls at NJAC Foe Rowan

GLASSBORO, N.J. (October 13, 2018) – The Rutgers University-Newark women's soccer team dropped a road New Jersey Athletic Conference showdown with Rowan University this morning, 4-1. The Scarlet Raiders move to 6-7-2 (2-5-0 NJAC) while the Profs stay unbeaten in league play at 5-0-2 with a 10-1-2 mark overall.

Rowan outshot the visitors 21-7 but had a much smaller 8-6 edge in attempts on frame. Rutgers-Newark held a slight 2-1 advantage in corner kicks.

The Raiders were led by senior Julianna Ceballos who had four shots, including three on target, and a goal to push her team-best total to nine markers for the season.

R-N junior keeper Heidi Paulson took the loss while making three saves in a little over 70 minutes of action. Sophomore Jasmin Erichsen came on in relief and made one stop. Shelby Money earned the win, making a match-high five saves.

The Scarlet Raiders look to rebound quickly as they head to Drew for a non-conference matchup on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.

The Profs scored early before sealing the contest about midway through the second half. The hosts found the first goal in the 11th minute when a cross to the back post created a tap in before doubling their lead at 21:05 on a similar play that saw a pass across the net from inside the 18 produce another simple finish.

Rowan pulled away in a 79-second span after the break. Darah Wagner made it 3-0 at 65:24 and then played facilitator, lifting a long ball behind the defense that was finished off by Daria Jones at 66:43.

Newark freshman Jill McCourt forced a save in the 72nd while Ceballos and rookie Sabrina Fiordaliso each also tested the goalie before the visitors finally earned their best chance.

A foul in the box brought Ceballos to the spot in the 84th minute and the veteran delivered, beating the keeper to make it 4-1.
