Men's Soccer Defeats Kean on Senior Night, 4-1

NEWARK, N.J. (October 20, 2018) – Freshman midfielder Anthony Oliveira scored three goals for his first career hat trick to lead the Rutgers University-Newark men's soccer team to a 4-1 victory over visiting Kean University in New Jersey Athletic Conference play on Senior Night at Frederick Douglass Field.

The victory moved the Scarlet Raiders' overall record to the .500 mark at 8-8-1 and improved their record in the NJAC to 3-5. The Cougars dropped to 5-8-3 overall and 1-6-1 in league action.

Prior to the contest, Rutgers-Newark honored its four seniors: Brandon Goldy, Breno Lustosa, Victor Navas Jr., and Bryan Rodrigues.

Once the match began, the visitors wasted little time taking the lead. Just 50 seconds into the game, Ramesses Moore-McGuinness knocked in a pass from Felipe Lucas that got past rookie goalkeeper Christian Andrach to give Kean a 1-0 lead.

The game remained that way until the final minute of the first half, when Oliveira received a pass from Goldy and headed it past netminder Derek Phells for the equalizer.

The Scarlet Raiders then put the game away with a three-goal barrage in the second half.

Oliveira again used his head to put R-N in front, diving to get his head on a ball from Rodrigues in the 50th minute to give the hosts the lead for good at 2-1.

Oliveira made it a hat trick when he took a pass from sophomore Adonis Scotland at the top of the box and fired home a one-timer that eluded Phells to make it a 3-1 lead in the 56th minute.

The Raiders then closed the scoring in the 81st minute, when rookie Brandon Parada was credited with his first collegiate goal on an assist from classmate Ahmed Moawad.

Andrach made three saves in goal to earn the win. Phells was credited with eight stops.

The Scarlet Raiders close out the 2018 campaign with an NJAC match at NJCU Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
