NEWARK, N.J. (October 20, 2018) - Today the Rutgers University-Newark women's volleyball team hosted a tri-match with Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham and John Jay College in The Golden Dome. The Scarlet Raiders dropped their contest against FDU-Florham 3-0 and were leading John Jay 2-1 in the final match of the afternoon but a power outage forced the contest to be suspended with a continuation date not yet scheduled.Â
In the first match of the day, Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham defeated the Scarlet Raiders in three sets, winning 25-19, 25-23 and 25-16.

The Scarlet Raiders received fine play from junior middle hitter
Comfort Akinbo who had 15 kills. Sophomore setter
Karly Gregoire was rock steady, registering 25 assists and 12 digs for a double-double. Senior outside hitter
Cassie Luken collected nine kills with one service ace and one block. Junior libero
Brione Lockett had 13 digs and four assists, while freshman right side hitter
Sharon Starling had an overall strong match, collecting nine digs, two assists, four kills and three service aces.

Lauren Harris was the standout for FDU-Florham, collecting 15 digs and 11 kills while Marissa Lehnert contributed nine kills and three blocks.
Rutgers-Newark was leading John Jay 2-1 (18-25, 28-26, 25-18, 2-2) before a power outage halted the match. The Raiders had rallied from an early deficit and won a thrilling, momentum-shifting second set before taking the third game to earn a 2-1 edge.
The Scarlet Raiders return to action on Tuesday night when they host Rowan University in New Jersey Athletic Conference play at 7 p.m.
