NEWARK, N.J. (February 1, 2018) – The Rutgers University-Newark men's volleyball team rolled to a 3-0 sweep of Neumann University in the Continental Volleyball Conference opener for both schools. The win was the fourth-straight triumph for the Scarlet Raiders who are now 5-1 overall and 1-0 in league play.
The set scores Thursday night were 25-5, 25-9 and 25-5.
Neumann was no match for the Scarlet Raiders who hit .549 in the match and an incredible .824 in the opening set. R-N racked up 54 points on 43 kills and eight aces, getting three blocks, 39 assists and 34 digs.

A Sandy winner pushed the Newark margin to 13 (15-2), with Crumlish and Pieper leading the way down the stretch en route to the 25-5 set win.
In the second, R-N ripped off seven-straight tallies to start, opening a 14-2 lead after 16 points. A 4-0 rally for the Knights made it 14-6, but the hosts closed on an 11-3 run, sealing the 2-0 lead in the match following a rejection from Arce-Cox and an ace from Romua.
Newark took 18 of the first 21 points in the third and final frame, with an ace from freshman
Tuan Nguyen, a kill from freshman
Rahmir Gordon-Jones and another Arce-Cox solo block accounting for the last three points in the match.
Junior
Brendon Frank had four kills and five digs, and freshman
Rob Long totaled four winners, two aces and two digs. Crumlish and Romua also delivered a pair of aces as the Scarlet Raiders received solid contributions from everyone that took the court.
During its four-match winning streak, R-N has notched two sweeps and two 3-1 wins, and the Scarlet Raiders have now won 12 of the last 14 sets they have played.
Rutgers-Newark will look to make it five-straight wins overall and two in a row inside the conference next Wednesday night when it visits league foe Ramapo College.
