ASTON, Pa. (March 27, 2018) – The Rutgers University-Newark men's volleyball team extended its win streak to four matches with a rout at Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC) foe Neumann University. The Scarlet Raiders won 3-0 with set scores of 25-11, 25-10, and 25-12 as they improve to 17-4 (7-2 CVC) while the Knights drop to 0-20 (0-11 CVC).
Senior
Justin Sandy led the visitors with 10 kills and a fantastic .750 attacking percentage. Rookie
Kyle Loesner matched his attacking percentage en route to six spikes while sophomore
Jake Connors added five kills, five digs, and a pair of assists. Freshman
Travis Emenaker had a match-high 18 assists and team-best six digs. Junior
Arnan Romua also guided the offense with 12 helpers.
Rutgers-Newark 25, Neumann 11
The Scarlet Raiders led wire-to-wire, jumping out to a 5-1 advantage behind a pair of spikes from Sandy. While the Knights pulled within two on a pair of occasions, an 8-1 surge featuring two aces and a kill by senior
Ricky Crumlish opened up an insurmountable 16-7 edge.
R-N earned eight of the last 10 points of the set, capped off by a Crumlish spike, to claim the 25-11 win.
Rutgers-Newark 25, Neumann 10
The Raiders used a run of seven unanswered points in the middle of the stanza to gain a double-digit lead that they would not relinquish. Crumlish had a pair of kills, Loesner added a spike, and Sandy contributed an ace as Newark went in front 15-5.
The visitors continued to expand that lead and won four of the last five points in the set, capped by a Sandy kill, to take a 2-0 advantage for the match.
Rutgers-Newark 25, Neumann 12
R-N won 12 of the first 15 points to take a commanding lead in the final stanza, led by a trio of spikes from Loesner.
The visitors gained an advantage of as many as 15 points en route to the 25-12 win and sweep.
The Scarlet Raiders stay on the road for another CVC matchup against Kean on Thursday night at 7 p.m.
