MAHWAH, N.J. (April 28, 2018) – Ramapo College defeated Rutgers University-Newark by a score of 5-0 Saturday in the semifinals of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament.
In postseason tennis action, once a team has clinched a match, the match typically ends. In the regular season, all matches are played to the conclusion regardless of the team score.
Rutgers-Newark ends its season with a record of 5-9. Ramapo improves to 10-6 and advances to the conference title match.
"Today was a tough match. Ramapo came out and played well," said Head Coach
Andres Bustani. "Despite the tough loss, I am happy with the season. I think the guys improved, I think we improved as a team and we have a nice foundation set to get better as we head into the 2018-19 season."

Vihang Patel each won a pair of games in doubles action, and Veer Kacchiapatel and
Kevin Martin each picked up games in the two singles matches that were played to official competition.
Nguyen battled hard at No. 4 in a loss that did not count for scoring purposes, falling 6-2, 7-5, while Yu and senior
Brandon Davis each won four games or more.
"I thought the toughness and fight Alan and Richard showed in singles play was admirable," added Bustani. "They both battled through the end despite Ramapo having already earned the win."
Rutgers-Newark has now reached the GNAC Tournament in two of the last three years and will be eyeing a trip the conference title match next season.
