NJAC Release | 2018 Rutgers-Newark Schedule
PITMAN, N.J. (August 15, 2018) – The defending New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Champion Rutgers University-Newark men's soccer team was picked to finish third in the NJAC Preseason Poll, it was announced Monday.
Rowan University topped the poll, with Montclair State University checking in one spot ahead of the Scarlet Raiders. R-N topped MSU in the conference semifinals in 2017 and defeated Rowan for the NJAC crown back on November 4.
Stockton University was tabbed fourth in the poll, Kean was fifth and William Paterson was sixth. Rutgers University-Camden and The College of New Jersey were in slots seven and eight, with Ramapo College and New Jersey City University rounding things out.
Rutgers-Newark went 8-1-0 in the NJAC in 2017 and is a combined 16-2-0 in the conference over the last two years. The Scarlet Raiders have eclipsed 20 triumphs in each of the last two seasons as well, advancing to the Round of 32 in the 2017 NCAA Tournament and the Elite 8 in the 2016 national field.
R-N is the only conference squad featured in the United Soccer Coaches preseason national rankings, checking in at No. 19.
After a tough six-match non-conference slate to open the season, the Scarlet Raiders will get NJAC play underway at TCNJ. Stockton University will be the first home league match of the year, and Rutgers-Newark will also welcome Montclair State, Rowan and Kean to the Brick City in 2018.
