PITMAN, N.J. (August 15, 2018) – The Rutgers University-Newark women's soccer team was picked to finish seventh in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) according to a poll of the league's head coaches released Tuesday evening.
Rutgers-Newark is coming off a return trip to the NJAC Championship Tournament in 2017. After missing out on the postseason in 2016, R-N played into November for the third time in four years, earning three league triumphs. The Scarlet Raiders picked up nine wins overall in 2017, just missing out on an ECAC Tournament berth as well.
The College of New Jersey earned the No.1 spot in the poll, with Rowan University slotting in at No. 2. Montclair State University and Kean University round out the top four, with Stockton University and William Paterson University sitting in spots five and six. Behind Rutgers-Newark is Rutgers University-Camden, Ramapo College and New Jersey City University.
The Scarlet Raiders will play 3-of-6 non-conference games in Newark to begin the 2018 season, and the ladies host TCNJ on September 15 in the conference opener. Rutgers-Newark will host Ramapo, Rutgers-Camden, William Paterson and NJCU in conference showdowns on the newly named Frederick Douglass Field.
Fans looking to get a first look at the Scarlet Raiders can come to Soccer Fest in Newark on September 5 when the ladies host Old Westbury at 7:30 p.m. Prior to that match, Scarlet Raider men's soccer will play a non-conference game at 5 p.m. Free t-shirts will be given out to all in attendance at the game.
