Women's Soccer Routs MSV, Wins Third Straight

NEWARK, N.J. (September 13, 2018) – The Rutgers-University Newark women's soccer team cruised to its third consecutive victory over Mount Saint Vincent College, 6-0. The match was played on Frederick Douglass Field but R-N served as the away side as field conditions forced the game from last night to this evening in the Brick City. The Scarlet Raiders improve to 3-1-1 while the Dolphins move to 1-4.

Rutgers-Newark scored early and often as the team saw five different players find the back of the net, led by senior Juliana Ceballos who notched a brace.

Sophomore Ana Silveira added her third goal of the season while junior Deirdre Mackin contributed her second. Sophomore Samantha Richter and junior Mayada Ahmed each had their first tallies of the fall with Ahmed opening up her collegiate account.

Junior Shayna Bohus chipped in a pair of assists to bring her team-leading total to five for the season. Rounding out the scorers' sheet, rookies Jill McCourt and Jessica Moreno each had a helper.

Junior Heidi Paulson earned the win while freshman Nina Gonzalez made one save in relief to complete the shutout. Junior Meaghan Cleary had a busy night with 10 stops while suffering the loss.

The Scarlet Raiders return to action on Saturday when they open their New Jersey Athletic Conference slate by hosting No. 4 TCNJ at 7:30 p.m.

R-N jumped on MSV just 67 seconds into the contest. A shot by rookie Bre Costa forced a save from Cleary and earned an early corner. On the ensuing cross, Richter got her foot to the loose ball and found the net to make it 1-0.

Mackin doubled the advantage in the 17th, taking a feed from Bohus on the left side before using her strong left-foot to rip her strike into the bottom right corner of the goal.

Bohus continued playing facilitator less than eight minutes later when her diagonal ball found Ceballos. The midfielder did the rest, taking a couple dribbles before driving her shot past the keeper.

Silveira got in on the action at 40:59 when she received a long pass from McCourt near the top of the 18. Silveira made the most of her opportunity, controlling the ball before blasting her attempt out of reach of the goalie.

Ahmed capped the scoring in the first half with the first of her collegiate career, corralling a long ball from Moreno and then beating the netminder to make it 5-0.

Ceballos tacked on another goal in the 62nd minute, following up her own penalty kick with a header into the back of the net.
