Lockett Named NJAC Defensive Player of the Week

PITMAN, N.J. (September 17, 2018) – Junior libero Brione Lockett of the Rutgers University-Newark women's volleyball team was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, it was announced Monday morning by the league office.
 
Lockett led the Scarlet Raiders to a flawless 5-0 record, earning wins over NJAC rival Rutgers University-Camden, and non-conference foes Sarah Lawrence, New England College, Baruch College and SUNY Maritime. Overall, Rutgers-Newark has won six-straight matches to improve to 8-2 (1-0 NJAC) in 2018.
 
Lockett started the week with 15 digs and three assists in the team's 3-1 triumph at Camden, and came back with 20 digs and two aces against Sarah Lawrence. After seven digs against New England Friday night, Lockett notched 40 digs combined in wins over Maritime and Baruch.
 
Lockett averaged 5.13 digs per set and registered 82 in the team's five victories, posting five aces for good measure.
 
Rutgers-Newark will look to keep up its strong play Thursday night when it hosts league rival Ramapo College in The Golden Dome.
