MAHWAH, N.J. (September 19, 2018) – The Rutgers University-Newark women's tennis team suffered a 9-0 defeat at the hands of New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) foe Ramapo College Wednesday afternoon in Mahwah.
Rutgers-Newark falls to 0-5 overall and 0-2 in the conference, and the Scarlet Raiders will look to get into the win column Thursday when they visit league rival William Paterson University. Ramapo moves to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in the NJAC with the win.
In doubles play, Rutgers-Newark was led by
Karla Pelaez-Ramirez and
Kallah Masudi who earned wins in three games out of the third flight.
Masudi won a team-high four games out of the fourth singles slot, falling 6-2, 6-2 to her opponent Jenna Shotmeyer. Additionally, junior
Nell Karpinski pocketed a trio of games in a 6-1, 6-2 loss at No. 1
"We competed today against a very talented team in Ramapo," said Head Coach
Andres Bustani after the match. "We are making improvements each time out, and with continued hard work we should begin to get some positive results moving forward."
Rutgers-Newark and William Paterson are slated for a 4 p.m. start Thursday.
