Christian Andrach Named NJAC Rookie of the Week

PITMAN, N.J. (September 24, 2018) – Freshman goalkeeper Christian Andrach of the Rutgers University-Newark men's soccer team was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week, it was announced Monday afternoon by the league office.

Andrach helped lead the Scarlet Raiders to wins over Albright College and NJAC rival Stockton University as they improved to 5-3-1 overall and 1-1-0 in the conference.

The Elmwood Park native was credited with six saves overall in the two triumphs, carding two individual shutouts as well. With the 180 minutes of scoreless soccer, Andrach now has 34 denials on the season with five clean sheets. His goals-against average sits at a shrinking 1.08 and his save percentage is approaching .800 (.791).

Andrach made one save on Wednesday as Rutgers-Newark used a big second half to roll over Albright, and the freshman came back Saturday with five big stops in a shutout of rival Stockton in the Brick City.

Rutgers-Newark hosts the College of Staten Island Monday night before hitting the road for a matchup against undefeated NJAC rival Ramapo College Wednesday in Mahwah.
