CAMDEN, N.J. | The Scarlet Raiders women's soccer program went into today's New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on a two-game win streak and had their streak snapped by the Scarlet Raptors. An 80th-minute goal by Rutgers University-Camden (4-8, 3-2) spelled doom for Rutgers University-Newark (8-6-1, 0-3-1) who dropped the game, 1-0.
In a low scoring affair, where the Scarlet Raiders were held to just four shots all game, it was the Scarlet Raptors that came out victorious.
Shayna Bohus tested Natalie Eberhardt in the first 12 minutes of the game with a shot that forced Eberhardt to make the save to keep the Scarlet Raiders off of the scoreboard.
Jessica Moreno served up a corner kick eight minutes later to set Bohus up once more, and once again her attempt was stonewalled by Eberhardt.
Heidi Paulson was called upon in the middle of the first half to stop a header. Shortly thereafter,
Jasmin Erichsen would replace Paulson due to an injury.
Ana Silveria had her shot blocked late in the first half while
Sabrina Fiordaliso headed her try over the bar and out of play.
The Scarlet Raiders were unable to muster up and offense in the second half as they were held without a shot.
With just 9 minutes remaining in regulation, Rutgers University-Camden earned a corner kick and made it count. Sarah Zuzulock floated the corner to the top of the box where Lindsay Hernandez was waiting. Hernandez blasted the shot high into the net over Erichsen's head for the lone goal of the game.
With the lead, the Scarlet Raptors sat back to pick up the crucial NJAC win.
Up next for the Scarlet Raiders is a road NJAC game against William Paterson University on Wednesday, October 16 at 7:00 pm.
