NEWARK, N.J. | The Rutgers University-Newark men's soccer team dropped their first New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game of the season tonight, via a 2-1 scoreline that favored the unbeaten Roadrunners of Ramapo College.
Rutgers University-Newark (4-6-1, 1-1-1) suffered their fifth one-goal loss of the season after they equalized the game in the 60th minute. The Scarlet Raiders had a chance late in the second half but
Miguel Sencion saw his shot blocked by a defender and cleared away from danger. Ramapo College remained unbeaten with tonight's win, improving to 7-0-4, 2-0-1). Â The Roadrunners outshot the Scarlet Raiders 20-11 with 14 of their shots coming in the second half.
In the loss,
Joe Alba led the team with four shots, two of which were on target while
Ryan Silva had all three of his shots on target.Â
The NJAC leaders were first to register a shot as Thiago Stallhbaum hit his shot towards goal and had it blocked by a defender.
Anthony Oliveira replied with a shot of his own, which forced Joshua Schaffer to make a save, six minutes later.Â
Ramapo was first to break the deadlock when
Andres Medina's pass was intercepted which led to a breakaway for Bashkim Saiti who tucked his shot into the left side.
The Scarlet Raiders would equalize 15 minutes into the second half when
Miguel Sencion was fouled inside the penalty area, setting up
Joe Alba for the penalty kick. Alba calmly stepped to the spot and put the ball in the back of the net to draw the game level.
10 minutes later, Raul Macedo dribbled around the top of the 18-yard box and uncorked a shot that found the top left corner of the net for what would be the game-winning goal.Â
Rutgers University-Newark pushed for a game-tying goal but were unable to find their opening as the Roadrunners held on to keep their record blemish free.
