MAHWAH, N.J. | The Scarlet Raiders women's soccer team followed up their first-ever win over Rowan University with a draw against Ramapo College on Monday afternoon. Rutgers University-Newark (9-6-2, 1-3-2) salvaged a point in an important New Jersey Athletic Conference game against Ramapo College (4-8-2, 0-5-2) with a 1-1 draw.
The women fell behind 1-0 in the 21st minute after Jessica Guccione slipped her shot past
Heidi Paulson.
Hope Davis put two shots towards goal late in the first stanza, one of which required a save from Elizabeth Harvell.
Down 1-0 at the half, the Scarlet Raiders came out in the second half and played more aggressive as they searched for the equalizer. At the 68:34 minute mark,
Bailey Kellenberger was inserted into the game and 10 seconds later delivered what the Scarlet Raiders were searching for.
Jessica Moreno served up a corner kick into the box which bounced around before Kellenberger knocked it into the back of the net. Paulson then had to come up big for her team as she made a pair of saves to keep the game level.
Glasgow had a golden opportunity to put the Scarlet Raiders ahead but her header was saved which kept the game knotted up at one. Rutgers University-Newark kept their foot on the pedal and peppered Ramapo in extra time to no avail.
The Scarlet Raiders sit on the cusp of the NJAC playoffs, five points behind Kean University with two games in hand.
Up next for the Scarlet Raiders is a game against William Paterson University on Wednesday, October 23 at 7:00pm in Wayne, NJ.
