WAYNE, N.J. | In a defensive bout,
Jessica Moreno collected her third goal of the season in a 3-1 loss New Jersey Athletic Conference game against the Pioneers tonight.
Rutgers University-Newark (9-7-2, 1-4-2) put three of their five shots on target in tonight's New Jersey Athletic Conference game against William Paterson University (6-7-2, 2-4-1). The Pioneers tallied eight shots and put half of them on target with three of the four finding the back of the net.
The Pioneers were first on the board in the 32nd minute of the opening half. Danielle Dachowski took one touch inside the 18-yard box and found the top left corner of the goal to give her team the lead in the first half.
In the second half, the Pioneers benefitted from a penalty kick at the 62:34 mark to double their lead over the Scarlet Raiders.
Moreno was able to pull her team within one late in the game with a goal in the 84th minute. Moreno found the back of the net via a free-kick outside the penalty area which gave the Scarlet Raiders some life. However, the Pioneers stormed down the field after the kick-off and hit a one-time shot into the net to bring their lead back out to two and effectively seal the game.
Up next for the Scarlet Raiders is a game against Kean University at 7:30 pm at Frederick Douglass Field on Saturday, October 26.
