GLASSBORO, N.J. | The Scarlet Raiders women's volleyball program played in their final match of the regular season tonight against the Profs of Rowan University. Rutgers University-Newark (17-10, 3-5) fell in straight sets to Rowan University (17-14, 7-1), 3-0 (25-16, 25-19, 25-14). Despite the loss, the Scarlet Raiders have still punched their ticket to the New Jersey Athletic Conference playoffs as the sixth seed.
As a team, the Scarlet Raiders hit .106 while the Profs hit .245.
Alexa Rivera led all players with 10 kills in the match and hit .267.
Karly Gregoire secured 26 assists while
Brione Lockett tallied 17 digs.
The Scarlet Raiders fell behind early in the opening set, 12-6, and were unable to overcome the deficit despite a late 6-2 run. The second set, the Scarlet Raiders were able to stay within reach of the Profs but couldn't find a long run to put them over their opponents.
In the third set, Rutgers University-Newark came out strong and held a 5-2 lead before Rowan grabbed the lead back with a 4-0 run. Once again the Scarlet Raiders were able to tie it up but a 7-0 run would close the door on the Scarlet Raiders pushing the match past four sets.
The Scarlet Raiders will now travel to Union, NJ on Thursday, November 5 to take on third-seeded, Kean University at 7:00 pm.
