BROOKLYN, N.Y. |
Sabria Glasgow scored three goals in the opening 16 minutes of the game as the Scarlet Raiders went on to down Brooklyn College 4-1 in non-conference action this evening. Rutgers University-Newark (7-5-1) snapped a two-game winless streak while Brooklyn College (4-7-1) had their two-game winning streak ended.
The Scarlet Raiders opened up their scoring account just 10 minutes into the game.
Deirdre Mackin got loose along the left flank and found Glasgow in the box where she redirected it into the left side of the goal.Â
Just four minutes later Glasgow struck again, this time with her head. Corner kick specialist,
Jessica Moreno, lofted the kick into the box where Glasgow was waiting. Glasgow positioned herself underneath the ball and found the back of the net to put her team up 2-0.Â
Glasgow's day wouldn't be over just yet, for the third time this season, Glasgow would complete the hattrick. Just two minutes after her header goal, Glasgow was sent through by
Ana Silveira for a breakaway goal.Â
Melanie Egas almost collected her third goal of the season but hit the post at the 17:51 minute mark.Â
The Bulldogs pulled one back in the 35th minute from a free-kick just outside the penalty area to cut the lead down to two. After that goal, the Scarlet Raiders made defensive corrections to hold Brooklyn College scoreless the rest of the game.
Maria Miranda added one more tally in the second half off of a corner kick by Moreno. The Scarlet Raiders didn't find the back of the net the rest of the game, however, Glasgow hit the woodwork late in the contest which prevented her fourth goal of the game.
Jasmin Erichsen made just one save in the game as the defensive unit in front of her limited the Bulldogs to just five shots all game. Rutgers University-Newark rifled off 19 shots and put 12 of them on target.
The Scarlet Raiders return to action on Wednesday, September 9 when they host Drew University at 7:30 pm.
