Glasgow Strikes Again To Lift RU-N Past Drew, 1-0

NEWARK, N.J. | Sabria Glasgow scored the only goal of the game as the Scarlet Raiders win their second straight game. Rutgers University-Newark (8-5-1) withstood constant pressure from Drew University (5-6) at the end of each half to hold onto their 1-0 win.

Ine Collins had the first goal-scoring opportunity of the contest when a cross came in and found her feet. Collins' attempt would be pushed aside and away from harm by Angela Accetturo. The Scarlet Raiders would remain as the aggressors with Shayna Bohus putting a shot on target from distance to keep Accetturo active.

After Sarah Racine's shot was blocked, the Scarlet Raiders stormed down the field which set up Glasgow's goal. Tamia Howell used her speed down the right side and threaded a through ball to Glasgow inside the 18-yard box. Glasgow, kept her shot low to sneak it under Accetturo as she slid to make the save.

Down a goal, the Rangers turned up the heat as they spend a majority of the last 15 minutes in the Scarlet Raiders' final third. Heidi Paulson was a brick wall in net, parrying shots away and cutting off through ball attempts to clear her lines.

With a 1-0 coming out into the second half, the Scarlet Raiders returned to their attacking ways, searching for a second goal. However, the Rangers would settle in and as the second half wore on, the Scarlet Raiders found themselves on their heels once again.

Rutgers University-Newark cleared attack after attack as the clocked ticked down towards zero. Unable to crack the code, Drew University opened up which allowed the Scarlet Raiders to push the ball back into Drew's half to relieve some of the pressure.

With 10 seconds remaining, Drew lofted a free-kick just outside the 18 but once again the defensive unit was there to clear the ball away as time expired.

Paulson made five saves as the Rangers outshot the Scarlet Raiders 15(6)-9(3).

Up next for the Scarlet Raiders is Rutgers University-Camden on Saturday, October 12 at 1:00 pm in Camden, NJ.
