NEWARK, N.J. | Quincy Rutherford gave the Scarlet Raiders a one-point lead with seven seconds left, however, Kenneth LaRocca hit a deep three with two seconds left to give FDU-Florham the 66-64 win.

Rutgers University-Newark out-rebounded FDU-Florham 42-24 and shot 45% from the floor.

FDU-Florham (2-2) was led by Andy Fleurantin with 21 points while Oliver Ortman and Kenneth LaRocca added 17 and 10, respectively. The Devils shot a red-hot 48% from three-point range in the win.

FDU-Florham found success early in the contest from behind the arc, netting two straight three's to put them up by one, 6-5. Tyrone Bowens used his 6-8 frame to his advantage against the undersized Devils. Bowens was able to get position inside and convert a pair of layups to give the Scarlet Raiders the lead.

Quincy Rutherford put his name on the score sheet when he got in the paint and kissed his attempt off of the glass. Mike Vick further increased the Scarlet Raiders' lead with a fade-away three-point basket as the shot clock expired.

The Devils were able to settle into the game and began to find openings against Rutgers-Newark's defense which led to a pair of three's to cut the lead down from to 22-16. Vick elevated the crowd and his team with a driving one-handed slam which kept his squad up by six.

With 3:18 remaining in the first half, Andy Fleurantin cashed in from range to give FDU-Florham their first lead since the 17-minute mark. Barneys replied by asserting his dominance in the paint to draw a foul to send him to the charity stripe where he converted both to put Rutgers University-Newark back in the lead.

The Scarlet Raiders tightened up their defense in the final two minutes of the half and didn't allow FDU-Florham to find the bottom of the net.

The Devils made adjustments during the half after going into the locker room down 35-31 and came out in the second and tied it up at 40. Rutherford broke the tie with a strong euro step to the hoop at the 13:56 mark where he converted the and-one.

Neither team was able to maintain the lead as it flip-flopped back-and-forth for a majority of the second half. Andrew Shulz hit a corner three with 7:57 remaining which gave FDU-Florham a 53-51 lead. After a turnover on the offensive end for the Scarlet Raiders, Kenneth LaRocca hit a three to increase their lead to 56-51 over the Scarlet Raiders.

Rutgers University-Newark's three-minute scoreless streak came to a close when Barneys drove to the basket for an easy layup. FDU-Florham stuck with what had been working for them all night and answered with a corner three-point basket. However, Vick quickly dribbled up the court where he collected two points to bring the Scarlet Raiders within five.

A well-designed play with 1:33 remaining, Rutherford found Barneys wide open back door to cut the lead down to two, 60-58. The Devils whittled the shot clock down and in the final seconds, Fleurantin hit a three from the top of the key.

Vick quickly answered and the Scarlet Raiders fed off of the crowd and momentum as David Logan picked off a pass and tossed it to Barneys for the fast-break layup. Jamir Patterson had a chance to tie the game but his free throw rimmed out. FDU-Florham went to the free-throw line with a chance to extend their lead but missed both which allowed Rutherford to fly down the court and bank one in.

Down one, with two seconds left, Kenneth LaRocca hit a deep three which gave the Devils a two-point lead. The Scarlet Raiders drew up a quick play to try for the buzzer-beater, however, Barneys half-court attempt went to the right of the rim as FDU-Florham won a nailbiter, 66-64.

Up next for the Scarlet Raiders, is another non-conference game against Centenary at The Golden Dome at 7:00 pm.
