Hannah Ashby scored 13 and 12, respectively, as the Scarlet Raiders fell to the Cougars, 62-40 at the Anderson Sports Center.
Rutgers University-Newark (1-3) shot just 22% from the floor and 11% from behind the arc.
Comfort Akinbo led the team with six rebounds while
Louise Ann Borja sat atop the team with three steals.
Misericordia University (5-0) was paced by Tessa Zamolyi with a 19 point 10 rebound double-double on 50% shooting. Also collecting a double-double was Jordan Barth with 10 points and 13 rebounds.Â
The Scarlet Raiders found themselves behind 12-4 after the opening quarter in their last non-conference tune-up before they start New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) play.
Rutgers University-Newark broke their scoring drought, after six minutes without a bucket, with six minutes remaining in the second quarter. Borja cashed in on the back end of a pair from the charity stripe. Ashby added a layup just moments later to cut the lead down to 17 and at the halftime buzzer hit a jumper to send the Scarlet Raiders into the half down 16.
The women made a push in the third quarter out of halftime and cut the lead down to 14, however, the Cougars regained their composure and extended their lead. Misericordia wouldn't let the Scarlet Raiders get that close for the remainder of the game as they kept their record unblemished.
