Late Push Not Enough As WBB Falls To Ramapo, 55-46

MAHWAH, N.J. | Hannah Ashby led the Scarlet Raiders with 14 points as they dropped their third straight, 55-46, to Ramapo College tonight in New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) play.

Rutgers University-Newark (1-4, 0-1) shot 22% from the floor (13-for-59), 19% from three-point range (4-for-21), and 66% from the charity stripe (16-for-24). Samiyah Horton was the second-highest scorer for the Scarlet Raiders with seven points in 14 minutes of action. Comfort Akinbo led the squad with 11 rebounds while Louise Ann Borja dished out a team-high three assists.

Ramapo College (6-0, 1-0) was led by Alie Wickersheim with a 12 point, 15 rebound double-double. Jenna Harsh finished with 11 points while Stacey Porzl added 10 points and a team-leading five assists.

The Scarlet Raiders trailed by just one, 13-12, after the opening quarter came to a close. Ramapo was able to stretch their lead to four late in the first after Wickersheim hit a jumper in the paint, however, Ebony Odom Barnes replied with a jumper of her own to bring the lead down to a pair.

Ramapo matched their 13 points in the first with 13 points in the second which extended their lead to seven as the Scarlet Raiders scored just seven points. After Akinbo's opening basket to take a one-point lead, the Scarlet Raiders went on a five-minute scoring drought which allowed Ramapo to push their lead out to seven.

Horton tied the game up at 30 in the third stanza with a three-point basket and after nearly scoreless minutes of action, the Roadrunners retook the lead for good. The Scarlet Raiders were held without a basket for the final 4:51 of the third quarter as Ramapo extended their lead to five.

The Scarlet Raiders put forth a quality effort in the final quarter with their highest output of the game with 16 points. Unfortunately, the Roadrunners also had their highest point total with 20 to squander the Scarlet Raiders' comeback attempt.

Up next for the Scarlet Raiders is another NJAC matchup with Kean University on Wednesday, December 4 at 6:00 pm.
